During the 3 days of the conference, simultaneous sessions were held, which covered all business continuity, risk management, crisis management and disaster recovery topics. This year, resilience was incorporated, which is a concept that is included under the ISO 22301 standard, as an organization’s adaptative capacity within a complex and changing environment. “Resilience goes beyond business continuity, it has to do with the capacity of surviving and thriving,” says André Medel, DCV’s head of Business Continuity and Information Security. “It’s not just dealing with the incident itself, recovering and continuing to operate, resilience deals with an organization’s ability to adapt.”

An Opportunity for relating with others and for continuous improvement

The Ibero-American Conference on Business Continuity is an opportunity for meeting continuity and information security representatives of the principal industries and of all sectors (from energy to insurance and financial services companies), who participate in lunch or dinner gatherings, allowing to know different realities and sharing information. “For me, this is the most valuable thing since it involves having the opportunity to interact with professionals from different industries who are willing to share their years of experience,” adds Medel.

Regarding the speakers, directors of important consulting firms and representatives of certified companies shared their experience in sessions and workshops throughout the three days of the conference. “Being able to get to know such experiences and the fact they shared information on how they achieved some specific projects is very valuable for us.”

In addition to the 2018 Ibero-American Conference on Business Continuity, André Medel was able to participate in a Crisis Management Certification course in relation to the British standard BS 11200 with BSI Group, a global certification company as well as the main driving force behind all international standards.
