ISSA Report on Infrastructure for Cripto-Assets October 2018

LAST MONDAY, OCTOBER 15TH, THE ISSA (INTERNATIONAL SECURITIES SERVICES ASSOCIATION) PUBLISHED THE INFRAESTRUCTURE REPORT ON CRIPTO-ASSETS IN WHICH DCV WORKED ALONG WITH THE CSD WORKING GROUP ON DLT.

The Depósito Central de Valores (DCV), together with other depositories and industry suppliers are working on developing service definitions using DLT technology “Distributed Ledger Technology”, typically known as Blockchain. The objectives that were raised in the group involved defining the changes that the current and new roles will have in the future, and the services that could follow as a result of adopting this technology. To achieve the preceding, information was collected from authorities’ reports and interviews, regarding companies that have adopted this technology and those that have emerged because of it. Similarly, the potential risks of adopting it were analyzed. “This allowed us to detect new potential roles and services that we believe will be required in the future in the industry,” explains Claudio Calderón, DCV’s Innovation and Development Head.

The report’s purpose (published by ISSA) is to raise awareness on the fact that service provision in the cryptographic assets’ markets (and not just the fact of having adopted DLT technology by the market’s infrastructures to improve their services) should be viewed as a target market by the securities industry’s principal participants. The document proposes a set of topics that will be explored later by the working group, with the aim of exploring this particular problem.

ISSA expects this work contributes to the market’s growth in general as well as the appearance of a more secure and efficient environment for the trade and investment of cryptographic assets.

Infrastructure for Crypto-Assets: A Review of Infrastructure Providers” was published under one of ISSA’s branches of work. It was written having in mind depositories, clearing houses, custodian banks and payment market infrastructure providers and it is available for its download in the following
