For the fourth year in a row, Depósito Central de Valores (DCV) is present at the award ceremony of the country’s main prize to Economic and Financial Journalism (PEF), awarded by the Chilean Mutual Fund Association. The winner of year 2017 was the journalist from La Tercera, Kharla Caniupán, who stands out for her articles providing clear, truthful and accurate information, facilitating financial comprehension and knowledge.

The jury, who had the difficult mission of analyzing and evaluating more than 30 journalistic works, included the former minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Felipe Morandé, who chaired the jury, along with Mónica Cavallini, general manager of the Mutual Fund Association, María Teresa Cremaschi, lawyer and partner at Barros & Errázuriz, Enrique Marshall, vice-president of BancoEstado, Carlos Pavéz, Superintendent of Securities and Insurance, Hugo Traslaviña, General Secretary of AIPEF and Fernando Yáñez, DCV’s general manager.

This award is aimed at recognizing the excellence and quality of financial and stock market journalism, regarding savings and investment and, specifically, recognizing the major contribution to financial education.

“Depósito Central de Valores is proud to sponsor the fourth edition of this award, aimed at recognizing excellent financial journalists. We are certain that these awards are essential and contribute to the country’s economic and financial education”, stated Fernando Yáñez, DCV’s general manager.

In this same line, the general manager of the Mutual Fund Association, Mónica Cavallini, stated that “a country concerned for financial education is a country that develops, grows and provides its population with better opportunities to progress”.

The awards consists in a trip to New York to visit financial institutions, and a trophy for said award.

The two runner-ups were the journalist Patricio Torrealba, from El Mercurio Inversiones, for his report “Mutual Funds, an attractive investment alternative”, and the journalist from Diario el Sur de Concepción, Javier Martínez.

This last case was the first time the work of regional financial journalism was recognized. The jury stressed the importance of financial journalism excellence. Writing, truthfulness, management of sources and investigation were among the evaluation criteria. Finally, the jury also evaluated the use of sources and topics, since it was aimed at obtaining relevant information and educational contributions for citizens.
