ISSA Publishes an Updated Version of the Document "Crypto-Assets: Moving from Theory to Practice"

The DLT landscape has continued evolving over the last two years. There has been an increase in the adoption of technology and its products, in the industry, both from traditional and new players. This is reflected in the fact that there is a growing number of high-profile projects, both in production and in test stages, that have shown benefits that can contribute to the market in terms of efficiency and transparency.

Given this scenario, the ISSA (International Securities Services Association) workgroup on DLT, where Depósito Central de Valores (DCV) is a member with other relevant actors of the industry such as SIX Securities & Exchanges, Nivaura Ltd, Brown Brothers Harriman, TATA Consultancy Services Limited, Fnality International, UBS, Citibank, Accenture, DTCC, Clearstream, Global Blockchain Business Council and R3, has released an updated version of the document "Crypto-Assets: Moving from Theory to Practice" initially published in November 2019.

This revised version analyzes the issuance, settlement, custody, and other services for crypto assets to maximize the interoperability between the market's participants through recommendations and best practices based on applying standards and complying with laws and regulations. 

DCV, aside from sharing its experience in the PoC (Proof of Concept) conducted together with Banco Central de Chile (BCCH), collected updated information on some of the topics and participated in discussions in the work meetings providing information that contributed to the outcomes obtained.

Within the findings of the process, it was concluded that there are actions that must be taken, such as supporting the education on different elements of DLT, its uses, benefits, and risks; promoting the development of open interoperability standards within the crypto-assets market and support the regulators that are trying to create the proper regulatory environment for this new market.

Facing the severity of the drought we are experiencing in our country is something where we must all work together. That is why DCV launched an awareness-raising campaign to take care of water, targeted at our collaborators

The forecast for this year is for a 60% to 80% drop in rainfall in the entire country, making the scarcity of water a more relevant concern in Chile. According to experts, we are in the middle of the worst water crisis ever recorded, forcing many areas of the country to adopt extreme measures such as water rationing.

At Depósito Central de Valores (DCV), we want to do something about this reality by raising awareness of the use of this resource that has become more scarce and most valued for all of us.

Six years ago, the Huella Verde program was included in the Company's environmental responsibility challenge to promote responsible actions toward the environment. This year, we are promoting a campaign to use water responsibly, both in our offices and in the homes of our collaborators.

The first steps of the campaign are to listen to the ideas and feedback from our collaborators at DCV to implement then actions that allow contributing to taking care of water.

We will be sending practical examples of responsible water use for our collaborators, both at their homes and in the office.

With the slogan #Let'stakecareofwater, we would like to invite you to help in preserving our water resources.

ANNA's objective is to provide reliable, accurate, and timely means to identify and describe securities than can be used by all nations and their markets. Claudio Garín, DCV Operations and Services Manager, is part of ANNA's Board.

 

If you have invested in shares, bonds, or investment funds, you must already be familiar with ANNA (Association of National Numbering Agencies.) It is a worldwide Association of National Numbering Agencies that gathers members and partners from more than 100 jurisdictions. Each must assign a unique identification code to all new securities issued and then manage them during their life.

ANNA celebrated its 30th anniversary as an association, and Claudio Garín, Operations and Services Manager of Depósito Central de Valores (DCV), is a member of its board.

"For DCV, it is an honor to be part of the Board of such an important institution for the operation of international financial markets,"
said Mr. Garín, who has been a member of the Board since June 2018.

ANNA aims to consolidate and provide reliable, accurate, and timely means to identify and describe securities than can be used by all nations and their markets, providing certainty about their existence and attributes.

One of ANNA's most significant achievements has been the global adoption of a standard to identify securities, ISIN (International Securities Identification Number), as per ISO 6166 standard. The securities of more than 120 countries are identified through this ISIN code. Thanks to it, it does not matter where securities are issued because they can be identified through their ISIN code, allowing buyers and sellers to trade them from practically anywhere in the world.

ANNA is committed to using standard IDs to make the financial world a more efficient, safe, and stable one for investors and the financial institutions providing services to them.

The members of ANNA are the National Numbering Agencies (NNAs), where DCV, through its subsidiary DCV Asesorías y Servicios, has been operating for more than 20 years, and they have a crucial role in the financial markets of their nations, as well as in the global markets. As a group, they provide daily updates to the ANNA services office that consolidates the global database. Its activity is to accept registration information directly from the issuers of new financial instruments such as shares, bonds, and derivatives to issue codes that uniquely identify them.

Once each new instrument has been registered and a new International Securities Identification Number (ISIN), FISN, and a Classification of Financial Instrument codes (CFI) have been issued, NNAs keep the validity of registration data. With more than 82 million ISINs, ANNA contributes to harmonizing international standards.
