DCV and its Commitment with the Environment

One of the social responsibility actions we undertake at DCV is our relationship with our surroundings by protecting the environment.

Many years ago, Depósito Central de Valores (DCV) decided to put several actions focused on social responsibility in place, and in 2016 it became part of the environmental responsibility challenge through the Huella Verde program to promote responsible actions with the environment.

The purpose of the Huella Verde program is to promote awareness about the responsible use of paper, glass, and electricity by placing signs in the facilities of DCV and DCV Registros, through internal campaigns, and by placing recycling bins.

The program has put in place several initiatives, such as The “Huella Verde Team” that seeks to reduce the monthly consumption of paper by promoting the staff’s collaboration; a campaign to replace paper cups with glass bottles and mugs that allows saving 15 trees per year; the paper recycling campaign through Fundación San José, where for each recycling box filled, DCV contributes with diapers, baby bottles, and supplies for children going through the adoption process, among others.

This year, we are committed to “Desafío Cero” whose aim is to create awareness on waste management by inviting people to separate waste to reduce its production and contribute to the proper use of the recycling bins located at the offices of DCV.

For this challenge, we implemented the following:

  • Recycling bins at the offices of DCV and DCV Registros: Separated by type of waste.
  • Elimination of personal garbage cans, because usually placing garbage cans at each desk is one of the worst enemies of recycling, since it gives people the ability to throw out waste without recycling it.
  • Waste cleaning: At DCV, we must all make sure that the waste we recycle is free of any substances that may hinder the recycling process. Often, organic waste can contaminate what we intend to recycle, and thus we must make sure that what we are recycling is free of it.

Considering the above, we are becoming aware of our footprint, reducing our waste, implementing best practices, and reusing those ideas that can contribute to a better world.
