Diversity: more than a fashionable subject

FROM THE BEGINNING DCV HAS FOCUSED ON OFFERING CONDITIONS TO DEVELOP FOR ITS EMPLOYEES.

Diversity, rather than being a fashionable subject of headlines and marketing, has become an opportunity for companies to achieve better productive results. According to a Boston Consulting Group survey, 98% of the companies claim to have gender diversity programs, but only 21% of the surveyed believe that they benefit from them.

These initiatives are tremendously relevant, but they are not enough. What women require, in addition to these theoretical frameworks, are concrete and closer actions”, explains Sandra Valenzuela, Human Resource Manager of the Depósito Central de Valores. “It is generally agreed that flexible work models are urgently needed as well as good, visible and accessible practices that we can copy”, the executive added.

Since the beginning, the Depósito Central de Valores (DCV) has focused on offering interesting development conditions for our employees, at all levels within the organization. “The path taken is neither fast or easy, but we are moving forward. This does not only happen to us, Chile is a country with an important diversity gap, but it would be a nice challenge for the financial industry (which we form part of) to lead the change to make gender diversity a reality”, points out Valenzuela.

According to a recent study presented at Icare, companies with more than 30% of women in senior positions, earn 6% more in profits than those that do not meet this condition. Similarly, firms with at least one woman in an executive position obtain a 14% return on capital, compared to the 11% of organizations without female representation, according to the “CS Gender 3000: Women in Senior Management” report from Credit Suisse.
