This past May 7th last May 7th the ceremony for the 5th version of this award was held, with the attendance of authorities from Banco Central, the Financial Market Commission and representatives of the private sector and the media. he first place was awarded to Daniela Paleo, journalist from El Mercurio, for the article “The experts’ formulas for adolescents to overcome financial illiteracy”. The story is focused on youth’s poor financial education, according to the last results of the PISA test, a study carried out by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), aimed at evaluating to what extent students are reaching their last high schools years having acquired essential skills for a full involvement in society. In her article, the journalist gathers several recommendations to make improvements in this area, such as using simple financial products or promoting financial education in schools. The second place of the Economic and Financial Journalism award (PEF) was for the article “Economic rowth and more financial education would reduce high indebtednessrowth and more financial education would reduce high indebtedness”, of the journalist Carmen Gloria Sandoval, from the newspaper El Sur de Concepción. The honorable mention was for the journalist Maximiliano Andrade, from La Tercera, for the story titled “Opportunities to make voluntary contributions”. Jury was chaired by the economist Felipe Morandé, and it was composed of the Vice-president of the Financial Market Commission, Rosario Celedón; the General Manager of the Association of Mutual Fund Administrators, Mónica Cavallini; the lawyer and partner of Barros & Errázuriz, María Teresa Cremaschi; the former President of BancoEstado, Enrique Marshall; the Director of the Asociación Interamericana de Periodistas de Economía y Finanzas (AIPEF), Hugo Traslaviña; and on behalf of DCV, its General Manager, Fernando Yáñez. "We congratulate the more than 40 articles that submitted and the three winners, for the contribution that their content makes in informing in a simple and clear way concepts that are often complex for citizens. This work is essential to improve financial education every day in our country, "Yáñez emphasizes.
