During November 30th and December 1st and 2nd, the 70th Extraordinary General Meeting of Numbering Agencies for financial securities (Association of National Numbering Agency, ANNA) was held at the Intercontinental Hotel, with the attendance of representatives from 25 countries, led by ANNA’s Chairman, Dan Kuhnel.

The Superintendent of Banks and Financial Institutions (SBIF), Eric Parrado, was the Chilean industry’s guest in charge of welcoming the delegates, along with the principal representatives of Depósito Central de Valores (DCV), led by its General Manager, Fernando Yáñez.

ANNA’s meetings, held in distinct parts of the world, are aimed at gathering the principal Numbering Agencies, in order to make progress in the global adoption of common identification standards for securities traded in these markets.

Work and collaboration was the spirit of the 39 representatives from more than 25 countries during the 3 days of the meeting, which listened to the lectures of the delegates and exchanged ideas and approaches on financial issues and those aimed at improving their effectiveness and security.

DCV, the only numbering agency for the identification of financial instruments in Chile, has been associated with ANNA since 2001, due to the need to achieve common security standards in the financial markets of the different countries, especially considering the challenges arising from globalization and the increasing cross-border transactions.

At the inauguration of the meeting, Fernando Yáñez stated that the environment of the general meeting generates the possibility of exchanging experiences with similar entities from other countries, allowing them to jointly address relevant issues in this field, and support ANNA’s role in the establishment of common practices and standards for the global industry.

“The meeting covered important and interesting topics for the industry, which were discussed by the representatives of ANNA’s active members, which were also able to get acquainted with the local realities of each country”, stated the executive. Fernando Yáñez also mentioned the principal milestones in the history of DCV, pointing out that it is the only Chilean securities custodian, and that it currently works for more than 185 clients, being the custodian of close to 400 billion dollars.

At the inauguration of the meeting, the Superintendent of Banks and Financial Institutions (SBIF), Eric Parrado, referred to the relevance of this type of meeting, which allow for discussing and adopting common criteria between the financial markets of different countries, to face the major technological revolution that has affected all fields, and also financial markets.

In this regard, the highest authority of the SBIF stated that “all actors are responsible for achieving a more secure use of technology in financial systems”. And he added that: “regulation and innovation are not contradictory, and we believe that they can work together to achieve a more stable and sustainable financial system, which benefits all of the system’s actors”.
