Financial Education Board (MEF) launches course for journalists that brings together leaders of the economic world

The course convened more than 80 journalists and communicators
from across the country, who will each obtain a diploma
following completion of the sessions.

This Friday the 6th version of the course for journalists in the financial world began; an initiative led by the Center for Financial Studies (CEF) of the ESE Business School of the Universidad de los Andes and the Financial Education Board (MEF). This entity is formed by the AFP’s Association, Insurers Association, Mutual Fund Administrator Association, Chilean Association of Investment Fund Administrators (ACAFI), Santiago’s Stock Exchange, Electronic Stock Exchange, Depósito Central de Valores (DCV), FinteChile (Fintech’s Association of Chile), and the CEF. The course will take place every Friday until July 2nd.

The initiative seeks to train communicators in concepts of the economic world and to improve the quality of information concerning matters related to the financial system. For this reason, five sessions will be carried out that will address economic and financial issues of high impact in our country, and will include the participation of leading speakers in their fields.

In this context, the Financial Education Board (MEF) aims to create a forum for the union of the financial industry, collaborative work in search of synergies, and the improvement of financial education in the country.

The first session “Pensions: the solidarity of our system” was held on June 4th and its participating speakers were Alejandra Cox, President of the AFP’s Association, and Cecilia Cifuentes, Executive Director of CEF. The chairperson was Javier Jara Traub, Legal and Corporate Affairs Manager of the Depósito Central de Valores (DCV).

The second session, “Fintech’s world, cryptocurrencies and its contribution to inclusion”, will take place on Friday, June 11th and will include the participation of Beltrán de Ramón, the Central Bank’s Economist, and Hugo Benedetti, Director of the Executive Master in Finance and Investments of the ESE, and will be moderated by Ángel Sierra, Executive Director of FinteChile.

The third session “Debt in Chile: the dance of those who are forgotten?” will take place on Friday, June 18th. It will involve the participation of Eric Parrado Herrera, Chief Economist and General Manager of the Research Department of the Inter-American Development Bank, and Guillermo Tagle Quiroz, Executive President of Credicorp; Mónica Cavallini, General Manager of the Association of Mutual Funds, will be its chairperson.

The fourth session “The new institutional and regulatory structure of the financial sector” will be held on June 25th and it will have the participation of Bernardita Piedrabuena, Commissioner of the CMF and Daniel García, General Director of Supervision of Market Conduct of the CMF. Its chairperson will be Santiago Truffa, Assistant Professor of the ESE’s Financial Directorate.

Finally, the fifth and final session will take place on July 2nd. Titled “Economic aspects of the constitutional discussion”, and it will involve the participation of Natalia González, Legal and Legislative Affairs Director at Libertad y Desarrollo, and Sebastián Claro, Academic and Researcher at the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences of the Universidad de los Andes. Its chairperson will be Juan Jaime Díaz, President of the ANP.
