In its 16 years, Mujeres Empresarias has made an effort to highlight and recognize the role of women executives, the benefits of reducing the existing gaps and highlighting the value of adding more women to companies, especially in senior management positions. “With this award, we are empowering women's leadership and women's participation in decision-making positions, giving greater visibility to successful women, who have built a successful career in the business world and hold high responsibility jobs”. Says Francisca Valdés, Director of Mujeres Empresarias, in her welcome speech.

The candidates for this 2018 Executive of the Year Award (as the candidates in the eight previous years) have proven that there is lot of female talent in Chile. Hence, that incorporating women in high responsibility jobs is a good decision, which has a positive impact not only on productivity, but also on profitability. We need a change of mindset so that women can really show their potential.

Katharina Jenny is a mining engineer with 15 years of experience in the industry. She has worked for large companies such as BHP and Codelco. For the past 2 years, she has been the Corporate Health and Safety Manager at Antofagasta Minerals and Director of Mina Antucoya of the same business group. This 2018 Executive of the Year is a specialist in safety and sustainability, where she has managed to keep an amazing record of 28 months without fatal accidents in AMSA (the previous one had only been 14 months).

Jenny received the award with her husband and her 3-year-old twins, and she was grateful to be part of a company that has allowed her to grow. “I work in an industry that is learning to be friendly with women, which is the mining industry, a difficult industry, so I would also like to recognize all those women who day after day strive to work, many times away from their family. I am extremely grateful”, she said after receiving the award.

DCV ALWAYS SUPPORTING FEMALE TALENT

Several studies have revealed that women have great leadership skills that can improve many aspects of an organization, thus, improving the work environment for both men and women. Also, there have been studies showing that companies with more women leaders are more profitable, however, the path to reach parity is long, and requires a change of mindset within organizations.

Since its creation, DCV has established inclusion policies and respect for diversity in its business management. “Today, women are present in all segments of our organization. 35% of the office heads are female and we have worked on salary equity” says Sandra Valenzuela, People Manager at DCV. Also, “our goal is to keep moving forward” she added.
