Team Huella Verde: Testing ecological awareness
Huella Verde

THE NEW HUELLA VERDE PROGRAM CAMPAIGN IS AIMED AT REDUCING PAPER CONSUMPTION BY THE DEPÓSITO CENTRAL DE VALORE’S (DCV) EMPLOYEES.

In DCV, 66,045 sheets of paper are printed per month, which is equivalent to 8 felled trees and, in turn, to 840 kilograms of CO2 and having a light bulb lit for 53 thousand hours. For that reason and aware of this situation, Team Huella Verde has proposed itself the great challenge of reducing paper consumption among its employees through an internal awareness campaign that encourages the proper use of paper and rewards its consumption reduction.

Trees fight climate change by removing CO2 from the environment, but they are not only responsible for cleaning the air, they also regulate temperature, save water, condense moisture, produce oxygen and shade, as well as protecting us from wind and noise. They give us fruit, wood, protect the soil and hold it in place against erosion. They define seasons, providing thousands of colors and scents, creating landscape and beauty, welcoming animals and help produce a diverse ecosystem. That is why in DCV we reiterate our commitment to the environment through the Huella Verde program and this internal campaign that tests the ecological awareness of its employees in relation to paper consumption.

TEAM HUELLA VERDE CONTEST

“Team Huella Verde” looks to reduce monthly paper consumption by promoting joint work. Employees of each work area were grouped into teams represented by the name of a native tree. Each month, a printing ranking will be carried out, and the team that has proportionally decreased its paper consumption the most will be granted the “Team Huella Verde of the Year” award at DCV’s 2019 anniversary party. This is done because the aim is to make the initiative permanent in time and generate long-term ecological awareness. “For each of the members of the winning team, we will donate a tree with the intention of countering the effects of paper use on the environment,” explains Xioar Rivas, Quality of Life Analyst.

Internal communications have also been put into service towards this campaign, providing information and raising awareness of the impact and the contributions we can generate in the environment by changing small habits. Finally, the success of this campaign will rest on whether DCV’s employees decide to be protagonists of change.

Erika Barrios “DCV is not a producing company that directly impacts the environment, but we believe that we are all called to contribute from our standpoint, with efficiency and by creating awareness within the organization”, says Erika Barrios, Head of Organizational Development and Employee Experience at DCV.
