Depósito Central de Valores (DCV) launched its project “DCV Educa”, which seeks to generate opportunities for networking with the community in general and contribute to the financial education of the country, with a focus on clients, company collaborators and undergraduate and postgraduate students from programs with financial scope.

The “lets go” for the initiative was carried out with the implementation of the cycle of presentations for MBA students from the School of Administration of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile led by José Manuel Miño, Director of the Student Council, who were welcomed by Fernando Yáñez, DCV General Manager; Javier Jara, Business and Legal Affairs Manager and Sandra Valenzuela, Personnel Management Director with a “corporate breakfast” that included student-professionals from companies such as GasAtacama, LarrainVial and Latam Airlines.

The pleasant interaction informed about DCV’s role, its function and relevance in the national securities market operation. It also addressed DCV’s corporate culture, which considers high ethical standards, fair treatment and equal career development, in addition to the Company’s own values, commitment, respect, ethics, excellency and responsibility, highlighting the concept of “giving meaning” to each collaborator’s work, among other matters.

Maricarmen Gallastegui, PUC Coordinator of MBA Networks and Graduates embraced the opportunity to learn about DCV’s work and valued its corporate culture. ‘I would like to congratulate you for the environment and climate that you promote as we know that not only the salary is important for collaborators but also the place where they work.’

The second day of presentations was under the responsibility of Juan Carlos Melys, Assistant Director, Commercial, and it involved a extensive class for the Finance course for the Master in Strategic Management course of Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez. The presentation was held before 100 5th-year students, most of who were not acquainted with DCV’s operations.

Both academics and students valued the educational occasion, which allowed them to better understand how the securities market works and which are key institutions within it. The main inquiries were in connection with securities settlement; how DCV’s income is comprised; the way it operates with international clients; how securities transfers are performed; what dematerialization involves; and the steps required to verify and complete an operation.

Following the presentation, the students valued it considering that they will soon be professionals within the commercial and financial area. In this sense, Tomás Courbis said: ‘the presentation was good and it was important to learn about the existence of a company that participates in this part of the market, knowing that there is a central entity that provides more security to the operations. I knew about the existence of these institutions, but I did not know that there was an institution in Chile or that it was DCV’. Benjamín Plaza stated: ‘I appreciated having a general view and culture, as business administrators and it is important to know about the securities market and the financial institutions’. Camila Minoletti, in turn said: ‘I didn’t know anything about DCV. I thought the presentation was interesting, I hadn’t heard about DCV previously, so it was helpful’.

In turn, Carlos Ruiz Gamboa, course professor and Director of the Centre for Financial Innovation, apart from giving thanks for the presentation given by DCV for this course, pointed out that ‘the idea of this type of occasion is to try and bring the real world closer to 5th-year students, who will become business managers this year with a Masters so, therefore, the idea is for them to know the real sector with these types of speeches. University students are often very well prepared from the conceptual point of view, but they lack explanations about how to buy a paper (securities) and how they are paid. DCV has performed tremendous work in Chile in terms of securities management and therefore, it is appropriate that it can be transmitted to students, which is also in line with the objectives of the University’.

The project is something that is here to stay and DCV’s plan is to continue with this cycle of presentations for university students and is also developing training programs for clients and collaborators.
