Sandra Valenzuela, DCV´s Human Resources Manger, tells how her team is facing the challenge that coronavirus has posed, from the perspective of managing a human team of almost 300 people.

"The coronavirus crisis put the world in quarantine. In less than a week, our company had to organize people, technologies, and processes to work remotely," says Sandra Valenzuela, DCV's Human Resources Manager. "From one minute to the next, the planning changed, and we all had to face a great challenge." In this interview she provides details of how they have faced this challenge.

How has the Human Resources Management team reacted to this new situation?

To navigate uncertainty and adapt to such a challenging scenario, organizational resilience has become an essential virtue. By this I mean, the ability to anticipate, improvise, adapt, and even discover opportunities within a crisis.

To cope with the changes at DCV, strengthening leadership was vital. We had to make agile, clear, daring but realistic decisions, caring for and empathizing with the needs of people and, at the same time, ensuring the continuity of the operation.

What concrete actions have you taken?

Internal communications had to strengthen their role and direct its efforts to inform in a timely and transparent manner, thus promoting collaborative work and contributing to the adoption of new technologies for teleworking. Likewise, we decided to redefine our Quality of Life program to generate remote activities that would allow us to keep the team engaged and linked beyond the workplace. We have invested many work hours to adapt to the new needs of our staff, especially those related to the emotional aspect, without forgetting the needs of the business.

We have been close to leaders, sharing good practices to face trhis new experience and, certainly, the safety of our staff in this pandemic has been a priority.

How do you project work after this pandemic?

The dynamics in the workplace will not be what they used to be before coronavirus. However, this time has been an important opportunity to prepare ourselves for "the new normality". We do not know what it will be like, but we do know that we will have to focus on talent, on our adaptive skills and on understanding that technology is an indispensable tool for management.
