XIX Issa Symposium: the disruptive industry of securities


For almost 40 years now, ISSA (International Securities Services Association) has contributed significantly to the development of the global industry of securities services, by facilitating interaction between market participants. Through symposiums and work groups, it leads the creation and promotion of best practices in the securities industry, and promotes future-oriented solutions that create efficiency and mitigate the industry’s risk. Every 2 years, its more than 100 members meet in one of the most important and relevant events within the industry of securities services: ISSA Symposium, a platform for interaction, opinion formation and knowledge transfer among the participants of the securities market. EThis year, ISSA symposium was held in Zurich, Switzerland, from May 23rd to May 25th. Javier Jara, Manager of Business and Legal Affairs, attended on behalf of Depósito Central de Valores (DCV), a member of ISSA. INDUSTRY OF SECURITIES SERVICES: ¿DISRUPTIVE? The central theme of the XIX ISSA Symposium was “Securities Services Industry: Disrupted?”, which focused on challenges, impacts and risks of technology in the securities market Strategic challenges in the industry of financial services, responsibility and cybernetic impacts, Distributed Ledger Technology (Blockchain), robotics and artificial intelligence were the topics addressed in the opening speeches, moderated discussion panels and different discussion groups to evaluate its detailed impacts in securities services. ISSA: MEMBER OF DCV More than 100 institutions in over 45 countries are members of ISSA, such as custodian banks, central depositories, stock exchanges, brokers and asset managers, among others.
