Santiago, April 18th, 2018. International instruments held in custody increased 13% in the last 12 months, totaling USD 413 billion (9,280.3 million UF).

A total of USD 3,229.69 million international securities were held in custody by DCV in April 2018, a 763% increase compared to the same month last year. Most of the assets held in custody are bank bonds (73.4%), followed by Exchange Traded Funds (ETF), equities and foreign mutual fund quotas.

COMPOSITION OF INTERNATIONAL CUSTODY

Seven years ago, DCV launched its custody service for international instruments, both for local and foreign investors, building several strategic alliances with other international custodians, both in the United States (DTCC), Europe (Euroclear) and Latin America (DECEVAL, CAVALI, SD INDEVAL), among others. “At the end of 2011, we held USD 650 million in international custody. Since then, we have grown at an average annual rate of about 33%”, says Javier Jara, DCV’s Manager of Commercial and Legal Affairs.

According to the executive, during the next few years, DCV intends for international custody to grow by the same levels. “International custody growth means that the market is aware of the value of DCV’s service and its benefits, such as cost benefits, support in the settlement of operations, centralizing custody in a single entity, competitive prices, among others”, he stated.

National custody

The investment portfolio deposited in DCV, corresponding to local instruments, amounted to UF 9,280.3 million (USD 413.5 billion) at the end of March 2018, (1.3 times the GDP of Chile), representing a 13% increase compared to the same month in 2017. By type of instrument, equities, term deposits, bank bonds and TFR bonds represent more than 60% of the total amount held in custody.
