With workshops, tutoring, and celebrations for the children of Hogar José María Caro.

The corporate volunteering program of Depósito Central de Valores (DCV), which was re-launched in July, is moving forward in its long-term partnership with Hogar José María Caro children’s home, including tutoring in math, Spanish, and science, along with art workshops and recreation activities for the benefit of children and teenagers between the ages of 6 and 18.

During August, the month of Children’s Day, the first activity of the second semester took place: a movie evening organized by the volunteers, which transformed a daily-use room into a movie theater with movies, popcorn, and food for the 39 children of the home.

The initiative is part of the “meaningful entertainment” concept, one of the pillars of the volunteer work whose aim is not only to entertain but to teach, create bonds, and develop social skills. “These activities allow us to stimulate creativity and imagination in the boys and girls of the home for them to look for new ideas, other ways of having fun with other children, and strengthen bonds in their community,” says Cecilia Kohenenkamp, People and Culture assistant.

On September 16, the children will visit the Circo de las Maravillas circus for the first time, an experience that will open new perspectives and strengthen bonds with the volunteers. Additionally, weekly workshops in storytelling, urban dance, and the arts have been offered, along with a tutoring program in math, Spanish, and science, developed by external professionals in coordination with the home.

For the summer, there will be workshops focusing on recreation and vocational training, such as cooking, growing succulents, vegetable gardening, and making soap, especially designed for teenagers over the age of 14. The goal is to provide them with practical tools that allow them to acquire useful life skills.

The program is divided into three stages: creating bonds (2024), strengthening bonds (2025), and a final and systematic activities calendar starting in 2026. The goal is to sustain this partnership over time, creating continuity and an impact that extends beyond specific actions.

“The work through the pillars of education and meaningful entertainment is a way to contribute to reducing inequalities and promote the development of skills in the children of the home,” says Kohenenkamp.

This is how DCV advances in consolidating corporate volunteering with a sustained impact in the community, reaffirming that its commitment, expressed with trust and sustainability, extends beyond the financial realm to concrete actions that promote education, art, sports, and well-being for those who need it the most.
