DCV and the Financial Education Committee (MEF) Promote a Course for Journalists that gathers leaders from the economic world

The initiative seeks to provide training to communicators in economic concepts and improve the quality of information on the financial system. 

 

Depósito Central de Valores (DCV), as a member of the Financial Education Committee (MEF), together with Centro de Estudios Financieros (CEF) del ESE Business School de la Universidad de los Andes, are conducting the sixth version of the course for journalists in the financial world.

MEF is an entity comprised of the Association of AFPs, the Association of Insurance Companies of Chile (AAFM), the Chilean Association of Investment Funds Administrators (ACAFI), Santiago Stock Exchange, the Electronic Stock Exchange, DCV, Fintech Chile, and CEF, whose purpose is to create opportunities to gather the financial industry with collaborative work to look for synergies and improve financial education in the country.

This course for journalists seeks to provide training to communicators in concepts of economics and improve the quality of information on the financial system. For this reason, five sessions are being held to address economic and financial topics of high impact in Chile led by renowned speakers in the area. The course began on Friday, June 4, and ends on Friday, July 2, 2021.

More than 80 journalists and communicators from all over the country get together each Friday.

The first session, "Pensions: The solidarity of our system" took place on June 4 and was hosted by Alejandra Cox Anwandter, Head of the Association of AFPs, and María Cecilia Cifuentes, Executive Director of CEF, and moderated by Javier Jara Traub, Legal and Corporate Affairs Manager of DCV.

The second session, "The Fintech world, cryptocurrencies and their contribution to inclusion" was held on Friday, June 11, and hosted by Beltrán de Ramón, Economist of the Central Bank, and Hugo Benedetti, Director of the Executive Masters Degree in Finance and Investment of the ESE Business School, and was moderated by Ángel Sierra, Executive Director of FinteChile.

The third session, "Debt in Chile: The dance of those left behind?" took place on Friday, June 18. It was hosted by Erick Parrado, Lead Economist and General Manager of the Research Department of the Interamerican Development Bank, and Guillermo Tagle, President of Credicorp, and moderated by Mónica Cavallini Richani, General Manager of the Mutual Funds Administrators Association (AAFM).

The fourth session, "The new institutional and regulatory structure of the financial sector" was held on June 25 and was led by Bernardita Piedrabuena, Commissioner of the CMF, and Daniel García, Market Conduct Supervision General Director of the CMF. It was moderated by Santiago Truffa, Assistant Professor of the Finance Department of ESE.

Finally, the fifth and final session will take place on July 2. "Economic aspects of the constitutional discussion" will be led by Natalia González, Director of Legal and Legislative Affairs of Libertad y Desarrollo, and Sebastián Claro, Academician and Researcher of the School of Economics and Business Sciences of Universidad de Los Andes. The moderator will be Juan Jaime Díaz, President of the National Press Association (ANP).
